Week 3 - Hector Martinez

This last week was the most nerve wracking week of all. I was very excited to work on my project this week that my partner and I even met up the weekend before to finalize our idea, plan how we will use the coding and Arduino sofrware to accomplish it, and work a bit on our academic poster. When we first arrived, we started by trying to combine our pedometer/accelerometer code with the pulse oximeter code. After a few attempts of not getting anything to show up on the screen, we finally got something and we were able to combine them. Unfortunately, they were overlapping with each other and we couldn't get any further than that. I got the idea to start our device with one component, the accelerometer. My idea was to edit the pedometer code into a tremor reader. I started by changing the name of the program and making the step count into a "tremor count". That was all for Day 1.

For Day 2, we were able to complete our academic poster and part 1 of our tremor reader code. With help from google, Dr. Young, and my good friend chat, we were able to make it so that my tremor reader was able to count tremor like movements, and not count big movements like walking and running. We made to where we added 2 thresholds, a minimum and maximum, and everything in between those threshold were counted as a tremor. We also were able to implement a classification system, that would display stage 1-4 based on the amount of tremors the reader recorded in a 25 second time frame. We could not get the bluetooth, pulse ox, and accelerometer to work collectively, but we were able to get two working demos running two separate codes. The ultimate goal was to combine them with further research and time.

I have really enjoyed my time in this internship, and it was really a fun and motivating experience beacuse of my instructors, Dr. Young and Mr. Franklin. I really appreciate the time I've spent during my internships, apart from the coding and learning, everyone here was fun to work and talk to, I enjoyed listening to Dr. Young talk about himself and his thoughts, and the free lunch was amazing. I would definitely recommend doing this program regardess of major. Thank you !
